Another supermarket treat

Good afternoon, how are we all today?

I was very stressed at work last week so popped out at lunch time for some retail therapy! However payday was looming which meant there was not a great deal of money sitting in my purse. Still, determined as ever, I began browsing the beauty aisles in Tesco - where I found this great nail polish...

VIVO is Tesco's range of budget beauty products, which includes mascaras, foundations, eyeshadows and more; I am yet to try the other products in the range.

The colour of this polish is fab, a lovely cappucino shade. The brush is very cheap (as expected) and the formular is slightly runny, meaning that 2-3 coats of polish are needed to get an opaque finish.

But, I don't feel that I can complain, when I paid a grand total of £1! It feels like I have been stealing it's so cheap! I applied 3 coats of colour and a clear top coat and actually, after 3 days it is still going strong.

Tesco's VIVO collection have a range of nail varnishes, between £1-£2, which is an absolute bargain!

Have you tried any products from the range? What do you think of supermarket's bringing out their own beauty products?

fluffy, silky, shiny and more...

I have never really been one for fashion, I just like to wear what makes me feel good, be that a flashy evening dress or a onesie. Over the past few months I have developed a real love for textures in my outfits - most probably due to all of the chilly weather we have had here!

Here you can see what I wore out at the weekend to a dinner date with the boyfriend;

Feather headband - from the Clothes Show in Claires goody box
Top - hand me down from Kerry
Velour blazer - £5 from the Clothes Show
Charcoal disco pants - £15 from boohoo.com
Cuffed boots - Christmas present (£19.99 from New Look I believe)

Being on the more generous side of 'slim', I was a little apprehensive about purchasing disco pants, but I just couldn't resist the texture! But actually, I do actually think they are rather forgiving - so a big thumbs up to boohoo!

So what do you think? Are you enjoying all of the textures in the shops at the moment, or not?

Exciting things to follow...

As promised in a previous post, Beauty on a Budget will see some changes arriving very soon - I am currently in the process of creating my own blog header! Hopefully I should get it up and running tonight so stay tuned! As always I'd love your feedback, so do let me know what you think...

Ciao for now! :)

Supermarket bargain? Don't mind if I do!

Being the brilliant daughter that I am, I trawled down to Morrisons with my mum to do the weekly food shop today (something that, I have to admit, I do secretly enjoy). However
what I did not expect to find among the fruit and veg, were these beauties!

Supermarket beauty products have developed a bad reputation over the years - which, in my opinion, is quite unfair. I agree that you do have to be cautious with some brands, and you are never going to get the same quality as on the high street, but if you are looking for something cheap and cheerful to add to your collection, then I would definitely recommend checking out the beauty aisles down your local.

This set of 5 brushes come in a lovely gold and lace wrap-case, and contain a blusher/powder brush, foundation brush, eyeshadow brush, angled eyebrow brush and an eyelash comb. The brushes are made of synthetic bristles and the handles are plastic. What surprised me however, were how soft they were! They do the job they are intended for, with no frills - i'm yet to clean them so will update you on how they withstand a good scrub!

Yes, i've used much higher quality make up brushes (and didn't my bank balance know it!) - but I have also used a lot worse. If you are looking for a cute gift for a friend, or a spare set for yourself, these are perfect. And best of all; they certainly didn't break the bank at 98p!

Have you discovered any great bargains at the supermarkets? What supermarket products do you live by?

Snow days in England

Whether you love it or hate it, nobody can say that the snow doesn't make everything look that little bit prettier. Until recently, I absolutely ADORED the white stuff - days off school, making igloos in the garden, all rounded off by a cosy mug of hot chocolate.

This year however, was not quite so much fun. Working full-time means that sadly, you don't get a day off because of the weather (boo!) so I sat at my computer at 8am on Friday morning, envying my brother and sister who were still curled up in bed, making the most of their long weekend.

Luck struck when, by the afternoon, the snow was really coming down and management made the decision to send us home early. 'That's great!' I hear you cry, and I would have agreed with you, had not what it seemed like every single boss in town made the same decision, and I ended up stuck in traffic for almost 5 hours. My car also got stuck in the snow and work and I had to be rescued (much to my embarrassment)  by a colleague who could see I was going nowhere fast!

All is not lost though - I got to wear my cosy hat and coat, take some beautiful pictures and spend some time  with my brother and the dog. Yes, the snow may be a pain in the behind, and us brits are never going to be able to stop bulk-buying half of Tescos when it falls - but we don't get it very often so quit your complaining, stick on your long-john's and get out there and enjoy it!

Where have you been?

I have to admit, I have neglected my poor little blog over the last couple of months. First there was Christmas, and then the new year and before I knew it we were coming to the end of January 2013! But fear not, I am back with a vengeance!

2013 will see new changes to Beauty on a Budget - the biggest being not all of the posts will be beauty related. I'm looking to broaden the topics to include fitness, food and general lifestyle chit chat, so stayed tuned! I am also looking to have a New Year revamp (albeit a little late).

Please share Beauty on a Budget with all of your blogging buddies, and let me know your opinions on the upcoming changes, in fact let me know your opinions on anything!

Enjoy the weekend tinterwebbers!
